DroidDeck Compatibility & Setup Guide
A third-party reading of Droid-Deck/DroidDeck for people who need the device boundary, the install order, and a place to see whether a game was actually tested. Reviewed against the 0.4.0 tag on 13 October 2026.
What DroidDeck is
The 0.4.0 README describes DroidDeck as the SteamOS experience on Android: Valve Steam client in Big Picture on an Adreno handheld, with Windows games through Valve ARM64 Proton.
The Steam client side of that story is not the same claim as every Windows game running natively. Proton, and the instruction translation around it, stay in the path. A smooth menu is a narrower event than a finished play session.
What the project is not claiming
- It is not a stream of the game from another computer.
- It is not a full SteamOS image flashed onto the phone.
- It is not a promise that a GPU inside the README range will run a given Windows game without trouble.
Release 0.4.0
Published 12 October 2026. The notes, which this site has not retested on hardware, include:
- GOG, Epic Games, and Amazon Games sign-in, libraries, and downloads, launched through Steam. GOG and Epic cloud saves are named in the notes.
- KDE Plasma 6.7 in place of LXQt, with Return to Gaming Mode.
- A Steam touch controller in beta, up to four controllers, and emulation modes for Steam Deck, Steam Controller, Xbox 360, DualShock 4, and DualSense.
- Per-game compatibility profiles, plus DroidDeck-Proton as an installable Proton source beside GE-Proton and CachyOS Proton.
Requirements in the 0.4.0 README
The README also says compatibility and performance vary by device, and that hardware validation is limited. Meeting the table is the start of a check, not the end of one.
| Condition | 0.4.0 README |
|---|---|
| Android | Android 9 or newer. |
| GPU range | Adreno 730 or newer, or Adreno 8xx. |
| Adreno 6xx | Experimental. DirectX 11 uses DXVK 2 and may run. DirectX 12 games can still crash. |
| Unsupported GPUs | Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710. |
| Root | Not required. |
| Storage | About 3 GB for the runtime, about 1.1 GB more for the desktop and emulators, and more space for the games. |
Where to go next
- Device check
Match a GPU and Android version to the README, then read the empty test-evidence line instead of a borrowed verified badge.
- Install 0.4.0
The download, the runtime, Restrict child processes, and the Fix it for me path on Android 12 and 13.
- Game records
The fields a real test has to carry. No title is marked tested until a record exists.
- Troubleshooting
One stuck point, one check, and a success condition. Logs stay on the device.
Common questions
What is DroidDeck?
DroidDeck is an open-source Android project that runs Valve Steam client in Big Picture on supported Adreno devices, and runs Windows games through Valve ARM64 Proton. The 0.4.0 README is the source for that description.
Is DroidDeck the same as installing SteamOS?
No. The project brings a SteamOS-style session to Android. It does not flash a phone or handheld into a full SteamOS install.
Does DroidDeck stream games from a PC?
No. The picture is drawn on the Android device. It is not Steam Link or another host-PC stream.
If the GPU is in range, will Windows games run?
The README baseline and a game result are different claims. Windows games still pass through a compatibility layer and instruction translation. This site does not turn an in-range GPU into a playable label for every title.
Where is the official download?
The project README points to GitHub Releases and says DroidDeck does not have a stand-alone website. This guide links there. It does not host the APK.
What is the latest non-preview release?
As reviewed on 13 October 2026, the latest non-preview release is 0.4.0, published on 12 October 2026.
Does DroidDeck need root?
The 0.4.0 README says root is not required.
